SIP Panels craned up
Posted by admin, 11:32 PM
Pre-fab factory panels SIPs, or Structural Insulated Panels, being craned into place. These are plywood-foam sandwiches, so there are no studs in the walls like standard stick-framing. Premier Systems in Tacoma is the supplier. Supposedly they’re the biggest SIP manufacturer in the US. This is the first time we have used SIPs.
Great insulation, very stout construction, excellent soundproofing qualities, and look how easy to build. Just hoist the panels up and secure them together.
We are still targeting LEED certification. Somewhere in the Gold or Platinum range. Not sure until we complete the Energy Modeling. This will be an Energy Star Home. That’s saying alot more than just, we have an energy star dishwasher. The home will be certified Energy Star, which according to the Energy Star folks means a 15% more efficient home. Of course, we are shooting well above that range too. Perhaps in the 50% savings range.
LEED for Homes is now in full release. Cascade Built’s first project was LEED Silver, certified under the pilot program before the program was formally adopted.
