Siding & windows – Madison Valley Alley House

Green Building in Seattle: finally something interesting to look at on the exterior of the Alley House. The siding is about half installed now. Cedar rain screen on the taller recessed volume, Hardi panel, open joint rain screen system along the lower volume. In discussing the rain screen system further with the architect Elizabeth Grace, she’s detailed it with input from both product reps: Premier Systems SIPS, and Vaproshield Wall Shield, and they both recommend the rain screen system, as it has many advantages over traditional siding systems. With some of the high-end design features, when 2 such features interact the product may be less than the sum of the 2 since the features can overlap in terms of benefit provided. ‘Nuf said.
Note the design details, balancing the cedar volume with a repeating pattern in the corner of the lower volume. Also, this is pre-paint: the cedar is already one coat machine applied on all 6 sides, and the cement board is primed, but paint is not yet applied. Waiting for sun.
