Park Passive Wins 1st Place in PHIUS Annual Design Awards

We are honored to receive another win for our acclaimed Park Passive project.  Designed by NK Architects, Seattle’s first Passive House-certified home competed against entries from Japan, Canada and across the United States to take first place in the single family category during the Design Awards ceremony at the 11th Annual North American Passive House conference in Philadelphia.  Competition entries were judged on their strength in these categories: energy performance, design, craftsmanship, use of healthy materials, and level of difficulty for the given climate and site. For the single family category, the project competed against 11 other entries this year — demonstrating exponential growth in the Passive House movement.

PHIUS Annual Design Awards

Located in Seattle’s Madison Park neighborhood, Park Passive is a 2,710 square-foot home that sits on a small urban infill lot measuring just 2,000 square feet. As a certified Passive House, its residents enjoy significantly decreased energy consumption, draft-free windows and doors, unparalleled thermal comfort with an average indoor air temperature of 70-degrees, and superior indoor air quality with continuous filtered, fresh air – free of allergens.

The project’s fusion of high performance building with quality design has earned the project national media coverage, including a feature article in the New York Times (“The Passive House: Sealed for Freshness”), and prestigious design awards, including the 2014 AIA National Housing Award for Architecture.
